Where it all began
Every bottle tells a story of our journey. From that first sip of lemonade to the new challenges we face today, our story is full of passion, friendship and tradition.
Our history, step by step

The story begins with Francesco Tonna (first generation), who, after spending years working in agriculture, went on to work at the Grono Brewery, initially in bottling and later in distribution, gaining valuable experience in the drinks industry.

In 1898, Gaspare Beer, a resident of Mesocco, founded the Gazosa and Seltz Factory.

Francesco Tonna (first generation) bought the factory and moved it to Grono: this marked the official start of our history.

Left a widower with five children, Francesco kept the factory going despite countless difficulties, even working in the fields to ensure the business could continue.

Between manual labour and the first machines, production is taking shape in Francesco’s cellar at the new premises.

Francesco personally oversees the production, bottling and construction of the wooden crates, embodying the company’s artisanal spirit.

Francesco can count on his children’s support at the factory: whilst his daughters Ines and Matilde take care of washing the bottles, his son Osvaldo lends a hand during the bottling process, contributing to the day-to-day running of the factory.

After years spent on delivery and day-to-day operations, Mario Ponzio (second generation, husband of his daughter Matilde) officially took over the factory, devoting himself full-time to the company’s development and guiding its growth for decades.

With Gianni Ponzio joining the production department, the third generation has now taken an active role in the company and is overseeing production.

In 1968, Orlando Ponzio, Gianni Ponzio’s brother, joined the family business to play his part in the factory, strengthening the third generation and remaining active in the company’s administration to this day.

Between the 1960s and 1990s, Gazosa La Fiorenzana embraced new flavours: alongside classic flavours such as mandarin, more sophisticated and innovative flavours such as bergamot were introduced, expanding the range and giving our fizzy drinks a new character.

A new storage facility is being built, enabling us to increase capacity and meet new market challenges.

Fabrizio Ponzio (4th generation) officially joins the company, ensuring continuity and a vision for the future

In the 1990s, the company was the first to introduce a blueberry flavour to a Gazosa, an innovative idea that would go on to become one of the most popular flavours over the years.

Distribution is expanding beyond the valley, bringing Gazosa La Fiorenzana to an ever-wider audience in German-speaking Switzerland.

New systems are being introduced to improve production efficiency, control and quality.

In 2020, Ivan Ponzio (5th generation) joined the company, helping to carry on the legacy of Gazosa La Fiorenzana with passion.

More than thirty years after the last new flavour was launched, the company is expanding its range with two new varieties: Cherry and Lemon ZERO, designed for those who want all the freshness of Gazosa without sugar.
